How do you get the Interpol record check (ficha de canje internacional) for Migraciones?

Short answer

It is issued by Interpol's National Central Bureau in Lima (part of the Peruvian National Police) and states whether you have an international arrest warrant. You apply in person, with an online appointment and a S/ 31.50 fee. For worker residency, Migraciones accepts it only if issued within the last 6 months, and minors do not submit one.

What the ficha de canje internacional is

The Interior Ministry’s gob.pe page describes it as a document stating whether you have an arrest warrant (red notice) from police in other countries, issued after a biometric identity check. It is used for Migraciones (Peru’s immigration authority), embassies and other public bodies.

It is issued by Interpol’s National Central Bureau (OCN) in Lima, a unit of the Peruvian National Police’s International Affairs Directorate. That is how the published summary of Resolution 0382-2022/SEL-INDECOPI describes it, citing the regulation of the Police law.

It is not the same as Peruvian criminal, judicial or police record certificates. Those are covered in criminal, police and judicial records certificates.

How to get it, step by step

According to the gob.pe page (last updated 4 December 2021):

  1. Pay S/ 31.50 at Banco de la Nación with tax code 08141, or on Pagalo.pe.
  2. Book an appointment in the Interpol - PNP online appointment system, using your receipt details.
  3. Go to the Monterrico office (block 6 of Av. Manuel Olguín), 15 minutes early, with nobody accompanying you. Only people with disabilities may bring an adult with them.
  4. Receive the document in about an hour.

What to bring:

  • Original passport, plus copies of the data page and of your last entry stamp into Peru.
  • Copy of your PTP or carné de extranjería, if it is for a change of immigration status.
  • Copy of your marriage certificate and your spouse’s DNI, if you are married to a Peruvian.
  • Copy of your child’s DNI, if the procedure is based on having a Peruvian child.
  • The original receipt and a copy.

If you are from the United States, Canada or Australia, you also bring a certified check or money order from BCP: US$ 18.00, C$ 26.75 or AUD 99.00, payable to the body the page names. That payment is separate from the S/ 31.50. For Canada and Australia, the page says only two BCP branches issue it: Jr. Lampa 499 (Cercado de Lima) and Av. Juan de Arona 889 (San Isidro).

The gob.pe page dates from 2021 and still mentions COVID-19 measures. We could not open Interpol’s appointment system to confirm whether anything has changed. Check both before you go.

How long Migraciones accepts it

The Interior Ministry’s page sets no validity period. The limit comes from whoever receives it.

For a change to worker resident, the Migraciones page (updated 22 April 2024) asks for a ficha de canje internacional “with an issue date no more than 6 months” earlier. In practice: if more than 6 months pass before you file your application, you will need a new one.

The same line says minors do not submit it.

Not every procedure asks for it

The gob.pe page for family resident, updated the same day, does not include the Interpol check among its requirements. It does set as a condition that you have no police, criminal or judicial records in your home country or in the countries where you lived before.

So read the page for your exact procedure. To extend a residency you already hold, see extending your residency. For the work side, see working in Peru as a foreigner.

Records from your home country

For worker residency, Migraciones also asks for a document showing you have no judicial, criminal or police records for the 5 years before you arrived in Peru. The page does not say whether that document must be apostilled or legalized.

How a foreign document is apostilled or legalized for use in Peru is covered in apostilles in Peru.

Nationality: a disputed requirement

Indecopi’s Chamber for the Elimination of Bureaucratic Barriers declared it illegal to require the ficha de canje internacional in three nationality procedures: naturalization, nationality by marriage, and dual nationality under the Peru-Spain agreement. The summary was published in El Peruano on 13 January 2023.

The reasoning: the Police and Migraciones belong to the same sector (the Interior Ministry). Article 48.1.2 of the consolidated text of Law 27444 forbids an office from asking you for a document issued by another office in the same sector; it must obtain it itself.

Later, Migraciones’ gob.pe pages changed. The pages for naturalization and nationality by marriage (last updated 27 January 2026) say the Fifth Specialized Contentious-Administrative Chamber for Market Matters of the Lima Superior Court granted the Interior Ministry an injunction (Resolución Cuatro, of 30 January 2024). According to those pages, the injunction suspends the non-application of the Interpol check, reaches Resolution 0382-2022/SEL-INDECOPI, and Migraciones has asked for the document again since 14 June 2024. Both pages list it among the requirements, issued no more than 6 months earlier.

The page for dual nationality under the Spain agreement (last updated 17 June 2024) does not mention that injunction. It still says the Interpol check cannot be required, but it also lists it among the requirements.

We did not read the court decision and do not know the current state of that case. Before you apply, check the gob.pe page for your exact procedure.

The Indecopi resolution covers only those three nationality procedures. We found no equivalent resolution for residency procedures, which still ask for the document. If an office demands a document the law does not allow it to request, see what to do if a procedure is refused.

How to file

  1. Check that your Migraciones procedure asks for itThe worker-resident page requires it. The family-resident page does not list it. Read the gob.pe page for your exact procedure before you pay.
  2. Pay S/ 31.50 at Banco de la NaciónUse tax code 08141, or pay on Pagalo.pe. Keep and print the receipt (voucher): you need it to book the appointment. US, Canadian and Australian nationals also need a certified check or money order from BCP for the amount the page lists.
  3. Book an appointment in the Interpol - PNP systemThe link to the online appointment system is on the gob.pe page. It asks for your receipt details. Print the appointment confirmation.
  4. Go to Interpol's National Central Bureau in MonterricoIt is on block 6 of Av. Manuel Olguín. Arrive 15 minutes early, alone, with your original passport, copies, receipt and appointment. According to the page, you get the document in about an hour.
  5. File it with Migraciones before it is 6 months oldA change of immigration status is filed through Migraciones' online agency, with the documents attached as PDFs.

What people fail to ask in time

What can you do when an office demands a document the law does not let it ask for?

Find out before it matters →

What most people believe — and what the law says

The belief

You can get the Interpol record check online.

The law

Only the appointment is online. The gob.pe page lists the procedure as in-person: you go to the Interpol office in Monterrico with your documents and receive it there.

The belief

The Interpol record expires after 6 months.

The law

The Interior Ministry's page sets no validity period. The 6 months is what Migraciones accepts for worker residency: the document must have been issued no more than 6 months earlier.

The belief

My minor children also need an Interpol check.

The law

For worker residency, the Migraciones page states that minors do not submit it.

The belief

With the Interpol check I don't need records from my home country.

The law

For worker residency Migraciones asks for both: the Interpol check and a document showing no judicial, criminal or police records for the 5 years before you arrived in Peru.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the ficha de canje internacional cost?

S/ 31.50, according to the Interior Ministry's gob.pe page updated on 4 December 2021. You pay at Banco de la Nación with code 08141 or on Pagalo.pe. US citizens (US$ 18.00), Canadians (C$ 26.75) and Australians (AUD 99.00) also pay with a certified check or money order at BCP. Because the page dates from 2021, confirm the amount before paying.

Where do I apply?

At Interpol's National Central Bureau in Lima, Monterrico office, on block 6 of Av. Manuel Olguín. The gob.pe page says that since 26 August 2020 only that office serves the public. We found no more recent official source on other offices.

Does every residency procedure require the Interpol check?

No. The gob.pe page for worker residency includes it. The page for family residency, updated the same day (22 April 2024), does not list it among the requirements, although it does require that you have no records in your home country. Check the page for your specific procedure.

Can they ask for it when I apply for Peruvian nationality?

The official sources disagree. Indecopi declared it an illegal bureaucratic barrier to require the ficha de canje internacional for nationality by naturalization, by marriage and for dual nationality under the Peru-Spain agreement (Resolution 0382-2022/SEL-INDECOPI, summary published on 13 January 2023). But the Migraciones pages for naturalization and for nationality by marriage (last updated 27 January 2026) say a court injunction of 30 January 2024 suspended that effect and that Migraciones has asked for the document again since 14 June 2024. The page for the Spain agreement (last updated 17 June 2024) still says it cannot be required, although it lists it among the requirements. Check the page for your procedure before you apply.
